Familiar Roads, Familiar Faces

Hot coffee, packing, getting ready.

My sister drove me back to Platzspitz Park. I organized the buggy, got everything in place, and started to run.

Wow. Back on one of my favorite routes—one I’ve run hundreds of times after work or early in the morning before work. It felt special to be there again. Familiar roads, familiar rhythm, familiar thoughts.

I enjoyed the run along the river Limmat in the cool morning hours. The light was soft, the river calm, and for a while everything felt wonderfully easy.

But it didn’t stay cool for long. Soon the temperatures climbed again, and it became another very hot day.

I met the family in Wettingen. Yanis and Enya joined me for a while on their bicycles, and then about an hour later we met everyone again.

And then another surprise.

My uncle and his wife were there.

I hadn’t expected that at all, and seeing them there really touched me. It made me incredibly happy that they had made the effort to come and see me.

We had coffee together at an improvised little spot on some stairs next to a café. Nothing fancy at all—and yet perfect. It felt familiar, close, easy, and simply nice to be together.

After that, Yanis and I continued while the others planned to meet us again about an hour and a half later along the river Aare.

When we saw everyone again, Peter and Silvia had brought leftovers with them and spoiled us with a wonderful snack. What a treat on such a hot day.

Then it was time to say goodbye to my uncle Peter and Silvia. What a beautiful surprise that was.

Yanis and I kept going.

And wow—it was incredibly hot.

I loved it.

One of those summer days where the sun feels endless, the road keeps unfolding, and everything somehow feels alive.

It was simply the perfect day.

My cousin Andy, his girlfriend Pia, my uncle Peter and Silvia, my sisters, my brother-in-law Jürg, Yanis and Enya—I feel so lucky to have shared this day with all of you.

Thank you.

Really, thank you for this fabulous day.

When I arrived in Aarau, a little later Kathrin arrived with a large VW bus. We loaded the buggy into the back and drove another few miles to Küngoldingen, where I met Kathrin’s family.

They welcomed me with a poster on the door, a room prepared for me, and dinner already waiting for later.

Such a warm welcome.

We spent the evening chatting, eating wonderfully, and simply enjoying the time together.

After 30 years, we reconnected—and it felt great.

Now I’m incredibly tired.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Kathrin—and everyone in the house. I feel very welcomed.

Time to sleep.

Thanks for checking in, Andrea
