Climbing, Headwinds & Finding Paradise in Cobquecura
After a solid night’s sleep, I packed up and hit the road just after 7 AM. Sunday morning still carried the echoes of Saturday night, but the cool air and dim morning light made for a peaceful start. The Pacific shimmered in soft hues, welcoming me into another day of running.
Not even a mile in, I faced my first major climb—and it set the tone for the entire day. The route was relentless, a series of steep hills that kept pushing me to my limits. The two toughest climbs were in the last stretch, making sure I earned every bit of progress. But with every uphill came incredible views, rewarding me for the effort. I’d love to stop for photos more often, but keeping my rhythm is the priority. Some moments just have to live in my memory.
As if the climbs weren’t enough, a strong headwind picked up midway through the run, turning an already challenging day into a real test. At times, it felt like I was moving in slow motion, pushing forward while the wind tried to hold me back. Each step had to be planted carefully, the wind playing with my balance. But step by step, I made it.
Reaching Cobquecura, I was greeted by the distant sound of a sea lion colony, their loud calls echoing from the coast. I was curious, but my focus was on finding a place to rest. I first searched for a spot that didn’t seem to exist, then stumbled upon a beautiful B&B that turned out to be an ecomuseum—a 200-year-old house full of history.
Miguel, a young and welcoming host, greeted me right away. The house, built around a stunning garden filled with flowers, trees, and peaceful corners, felt like a hidden oasis. Inside, there were various exhibits and educational materials (which I unfortunately didn’t have time to explore). When I asked for a special discount, Miguel connected me with the owner, Silvia, who luckily spoke English.
Silvia was incredibly kind and generous, offering me a discounted stay along with coffee, homemade bread, plums, butter, and—yes—cheese! It felt like paradise, a perfect place to unwind after a tough day.
The rest of the day was slow and easy—just a bit of shopping and a lazy Sunday afternoon. I’ll try to upload some videos before getting some much-needed rest.
Tomorrow, day 52, brings another adventure. I love exploring Chile by foot, and I’m grateful for every challenge, every kindness, and every step forward.
Thanks for following the journey!
