Discipline in the Easy Moments

My alarm rang at 6am. Cold coffee, a quick shower, and getting ready for a long day on the road. When I brought all my things down to the lobby, where my buggy was parked, I found a small surprise from Carola—the Argentinian woman I had met the day before. A little letter and a snack. That truly made my day. I love short notes. They carry something simple and meaningful, and this one brought back good memories.

I got ready outside. It was still dark, but the sun was about to rise. I had planned another day of mostly walking—and I stuck to it. Sometimes that’s not so easy, especially when I feel good and the road invites me to run. But that’s exactly the moment to stay disciplined. Better easy than sorry. And honestly, why not walk? The weather was great, the road steady, and there was no need to rush.

The first part of the day I shared the road with trucks and passing cars, but for the second half, I had a parallel road almost entirely to myself. Quiet, open, and peaceful. A different rhythm again.

Today, I noticed something curious—caterpillars forming long, moving lines. I’ve seen them before in different parts of the world, but today I finally looked it up. They’re called processionary caterpillars. They move nose-to-tail, following silk trails, often to find food or a place to pupate. It also helps protect them, making them appear larger—almost like a snake. Interesting to observe. And also good to know: best not to touch them, as their tiny hairs can cause strong skin irritation.

The day unfolded under a big blue sky, with artistic clouds drifting slowly above long, open roads leading all the way to El Burgo de Osma. Simple, steady progress.

When I arrived, I spoke briefly with a man outside the hotel, then checked in. I went grocery shopping—also preparing for the weekend—had a shower, and now I’m ready for some good sleep.

Take care, and see you tomorrow, Andrea
