A New Kind of Freedom

I got up at 5:30am, packed my things, got myself ready — and just in those last couple of minutes, the power went out. No light. I actually liked it. A quiet start in the dark.

At 6:30am Jay and I met, carried the buggy downstairs, organized our gear, and off we went. A grey, misty morning with the full moon still glowing through the haze. Cool, humid air (not as intense as yesterday) and perfect company. We ran, walked, talked, and enjoyed the slow unfolding of the day.

At one point, a man on a motorbike stopped and handed each of us an ice-cold orange juice. I loved that he simply said, “It’s India,” as he gave them to us. Later we stopped for chai at a small stand. Parts of the road were under construction and everything was dusty, but that’s all part of it.

Today was my day to run freely. After many lessons learned over the past three days, I tried running the second part on my own. I ran ahead of my friend Jay just to see how it felt — and I liked it. Jay is such a great empowerer, and today we tested what it’s like for me to go solo again. I even did the negotiating at the end of the day (which you know I enjoy), although we eventually went to a different hotel a bit further down the road.

We’ll head out for dinner soon.

Thanks for checking in, Andrea
