A Cold, Rainy Day

Daily miles: 30.14 | Total miles: 8,984.68

My alarm rang at 6:30 a.m. It had rained all night long, and I was almost certain it would continue through the morning. So I started the day slowly — easy coffee, checking the weather forecast. It said the rain would last until noon and then clear up. That gave me hope.

I packed up without rushing, waiting for a little break that never really came, and finally left around 9 a.m. Before that, Bianca and Johno — with their beautiful old-timer car and caravan — had already taken off, also in the rain. Two cool, kind souls I’d had the pleasure of chatting with the night before.

It was one of those mornings where I found it hard to leave. I would have much rather stayed in the warmth, especially knowing I’d be camping again tonight. The rain stayed with me for most of the morning — a steady drizzle, not drenching but persistent enough to make everything damp.

Around mile 20, I passed a small property with a few cars and some abandoned buildings. I wondered if anyone lived there. Just as I passed, a car pulled over — a man named Ray asked if I wanted a coffee or needed anything. What a lovely gesture. But I didn’t want to lose my rhythm; once I get cozy, it’s hard to get moving again. So I thanked him, took a quick picture, and carried on. He was the only person I spoke to after leaving the roadhouse in the morning.

Ten miles later, I started looking for a place to camp. Eventually, I found a decent spot, pitched the tent, had dinner, and completed the usual daily routines.

It’s been a quiet day — just me, the rain, and the road. I’m looking forward to a bit of warmth tomorrow.

Thanks for following along, and see you tomorrow. Andrea
