A Long Road Under the Sun
Daily miles: 35.66 | Total miles: 7,734.35
I got up at 6:30am, had my coffee, packed up, and was out just after 7am. The morning was cloudy and overcast, though the forecast promised warmth later in the day. Leaving town, I made my way back onto the highway. Some early stretches were tricky—gravel here and there, and bits of road I had to share—but after a few miles I found my rhythm on a relatively well-cleaned shoulder.
By late morning, the sun had broken through, and it turned into a beautiful long road of running. I kept moving steadily, stopping only for quick breaks, and made good time. My goal today was simple: reach Port Wakefield, organize a few things in the afternoon, and make sure I get enough sleep.
When I arrived, the first stop was a bakery. I bought a veggie pasty and a cookie. The two ladies working there, one of them Chris, had everything arranged so neatly—the sweets looked fantastic, but I forced myself to look away. Afterward, I headed to the motel I had booked yesterday. I had hoped for a cheaper room, but options were limited. And once again, the Wi-Fi didn’t work in the room, which meant sitting outside in the sun near the office to get things done. After running all day, I would so much prefer to work from my bed—but I guess you can’t have the cake and eat it too.
Later, I made the rounds of the other bakeries in town. One sold me a cheese and salad roll with apple juice, another a white bread roll for tomorrow, plus a Berliner filled with jam. With food sorted, I finally settled in: shower, eat, get some work done, and then sleep.
See you tomorrow, Andrea
