The Path That I'm On

The alarm rang at 6 a.m., and I was up. Coffee, a protein bar, packing — and just after 7 a.m., I was on my way. The morning was cool again, so I wore my gloves and eased my legs into motion, maneuvering my way out of town.
I chose to take the Remembrance Drive, which begins at the Avenue of Honor Arch and stretches for about 13 miles. More than 3,500 trees line the route, each one planted for a man who served in World War I. It’s a beautiful and moving stretch of road, quiet and dignified, before merging into the highway.
The highway itself turned out to be a pleasant run — a wide shoulder, relatively light traffic, gentler terrain than in recent days, and good weather. Today was perfect for simply running steady, no picture stops, just enjoying the rolling rhythm of my legs.
It’s still not warm enough to run without a jacket, but with the jacket on, I’m soaked through after a few miles — and I stay that way until I’m done. The moment I stop, the cold sets in fast. Still, I enjoyed the sights, the stream of thoughts, and the beauty of this journey.
A final uphill push led me into Beaufort. First stop: the grocery store, stocking up on everything I’d need for the day. Then I checked into the motel, feeling good — tired, but relaxed — and began planning the days ahead.
Since I don’t want to shop tomorrow if I can avoid it, I made a second trip to the store to get what I’ll need. Already done. Nice.
Thanks for checking in. See you tomorrow. Andrea
