Flat Again, but Flowing Forward
Daily miles: 29.18 | Total miles: 7101.23
After yesterday’s long run, I was completely wiped out. I knew I needed rest, and since today’s goal was “only” about 30 miles, I gave myself permission to take it easy. My alarm rang around 7am, but I hit snooze a few times. Eventually, I got up slowly, made a coffee, and planned to do some grocery shopping before heading out.
But then—yes, again—a flat tire. The left one. Pushing the buggy felt off, and sure enough, it was soft. I took off my jacket, removed the wheel, pulled out the tire and tube, and found that one of my previous patch repairs hadn’t held. So I added a new patch over the edge of the old one and let it dry while I walked to the shopping center for tonight’s food.
Back in the room, I put everything back together. I figured after so many flats the past few days, I should stock up on gear. I googled bike shops, but most were closed—it’s Saturday, after all. I found one outdoor service place—more chainsaws than bikes—but they had a few tubes and a new repair kit. Perfect. I grabbed two extra tubes and felt better having some backup.
I finally started running around 9:30am. Late start, but it was worth it.
The weather was gorgeous—sunshine, warm air, light breeze. It felt like the kind of day that makes running a pleasure again. It helped that the route was mostly net downhill. After a couple of harder days, today’s run felt smooth, easy, and rhythmic. I didn’t stop much, but I drank more than usual—it was definitely warmer. Some truck drivers still cheer me on with a honk or wave, and I continue to feel the curiosity and kindness from many Australians.
Once I exited the highway and hit the outskirts of Euroa, I was dying for something cold. I spotted a gas station and went straight for two big bottles of Gatorade-style drinks. I drank half of one right away, and diluted the rest with water later. The second one’s already prepped for tomorrow. That first sip after a long, warm run? Magic.
One more mile into town and I was done. I took a picture with the Euroa town sign and headed straight to the hotel—luckily right at the edge of town, so I didn’t need to run far or go grocery shopping again.
The room is lovely—comfortable, clean, with strong WiFi and even cookies in the drawer (which are now gone). I washed my hair, settled in, and just felt thankful. After a bit of a rough morning and all the buggy trouble lately, this evening feels relaxed, warm, and just right.
Thanks for reading. See you tomorrow.
