Cruising Through Sydney

Daily miles: 35.85 | Total miles 6668.89

The alarm rang at 5:30am. I got up quietly, made a coffee in the dark, and rolled my buggy out of the room so I wouldn’t wake the other five girls sleeping in the dorm. A quick breakfast—yoghurt with a bit of muesli—then I slipped out of the hostel just before 7. It was only just getting light.

Starting from Sydney Harbour felt meaningful. I had booked tonight’s place in Leppington—36 miles away—and my body felt ready. The city felt quiet and kind to move through, the highrises glowing gently in the morning light. Summer holidays, maybe? Empty streets on a Saturday, just me and the early day.

Soon I was on riverside bike paths, and the rising sun cast a soft gold over Sydney’s backdrop. It was a warm morning, winding through peaceful parks, overpasses, sports fields, and suburban paths. Navigation was somewhat generous today—about 80% bike path, a real joy to be away from traffic.

Somewhere in the early miles, as I pushed my buggy up a curb, I greeted a woman gardening. Her name was Yoon. She instantly asked about what I was doing, and we both lit up in conversation. A moment of connection—unexpected, warm. These little chats are gold.

By midday, the heat had settled in. I stopped in Guildford to charge my phone and grab a cappuccino. The two young baristas were full of questions, lit up when I told them about my run. It felt good to share something with them. I told them what I tell everyone: Dream Big.

Not long after, I met Peter, an Argentinian. Naturally, I shared about my Argentina leg, and he shared bits of his story too. Later I crossed paths with Ryda, Jason, and a small group of curious kids. Their eyes lit up when they heard about the world run. So many questions. I didn’t have long, but just enough time to pass on the message: Keep dreaming. Keep going.

With 13 miles to go, I kept following the creeks and bike paths, even though the straight road would’ve been shorter. I wasn’t in a rush—just wanted a safer, nicer route.

Eventually, I reached my AirBnB in Leppington. No Wi-Fi. I bought mobile data again. It's now 7:30pm. I haven’t showered, haven’t eaten, haven’t planned or organized anything. I don’t love this feeling. And after filming my reel just now, I realized something else: I could pivot more in the evenings too—when things don’t go as planned. Let go a bit more.

Anyway… this is part of it. The messy parts, the small pivots, the tired evenings. Still worth it.

Take care, my friends.

Dream big. Pivot when you need to.

And always—keep moving.
