Kindness on the Road

Daily miles: 28.28 | Total miles: 6481.6

I slept in again this morning. No rush, no pressure. Just letting the day begin slowly. When I finally opened the door, the sun was already out, and the warmth of it mixed beautifully with the freshness in the air. It felt like an invitation to have a good day.

As I stepped outside, I met Justin, who was getting ready to ride his three-wheeled motorbike—his “trike”—southward. We had a really nice exchange, the kind you don’t plan but appreciate when it happens. Then, I was off and soon found myself back on the highway, legs moving freely, mind calm. The shoulder was wide, the traffic light, the weather perfect—and my whole body felt in tune. A runner’s dream, really.

About nine miles in, I spotted a café on the opposite side of the road. The sun was shining so warmly, I couldn’t resist the idea of standing there a few minutes with a cappuccino. I crossed over and did just that. That’s where I met Ralf—an Australian who originally came from Germany—and shortly after, Abi and her lovely family. It was one of those small morning breaks that leaves you smiling. And with that, I had the boost I needed to take on the next 20 miles.

The running felt strong today—powerful. Even through the rolling hills, up and down, sweat dripping, legs pushing the buggy, I felt like I was flying. Sure, I had to dodge some branches and took a solid snap on the shin from one that whipped back—but I was in such good form, I didn’t want to stop. No bruise, just a sting and a reminder that this journey is alive in every step.

Arriving in Bulahdelah, I asked a local woman for directions. Her name was Joanne, and we ended up having a wonderful, warm conversation. I then stopped at the supermarket to pick up food for dinner and tomorrow’s run. While I was packing up the buggy, a man noticed my shirt, came over to ask about my mission, and after listening closely, he handed me a donation. Just like that—his kindness lifted me again.

I reached the Mount View Motel earlier than expected. I had booked the room the day before and was welcomed by Jacky, the owner, with warmth and generosity. I tried bargaining a little, and she kindly gave me a small discount. The room was lovely—and out front stood a big, smiling koala statue, perfect for a photo.

Later, after I had showered, eaten, and started working on my socials, there was a knock on my door. It was Jacky again. She handed me back more than half of what I had paid for the room and said she had read up on what I’m doing and wanted to support the journey. I was stunned. I told her that I love her and that I’m deeply grateful for her gesture. My heart was full again.

Thank you to all the wonderful people who show me again and again that kindness lives everywhere.

Dream Big Too, and I’ll see you tomorrow. Andrea
