Buggy Roads and Bakery Dreams
Daily miles: ~27 | Total miles: ~5560.84
My alarm rang at 4am, but sleep had barely touched me. My mind was spinning through everything ahead—just a few more days to the Pacific, reaching the coast, transitioning to a new continent, organizing logistics, and starting the next chapter of this global journey.
I stepped outside into the early warmth and started quietly packing my things from the car. My buggy, reassembled yesterday, stood ready. I loaded everything onto it and wheeled it over to the bathroom block so I wouldn’t wake anyone on the RV site. A cold coffee in hand, I got dressed and organized, falling back into the familiar rhythm of buggy life. I was excited to be pushing it again—it felt like returning to something deeply personal.
Once I was set, I said goodbye to Michael, who has been an incredible help these past days, and started running west toward Sisters. The morning was gorgeous—early light, gentle movement in the town, and a few friendly waves as people started their Sunday.
As the sun rose higher, so did the temperature. It got hot fast. But the views helped me forget the heat: mountains in the distance, vivid blue sky, green pastures, horses grazing, and the road rolling out ahead of me, up and down.
Running with the buggy again took a few miles to get used to, but it went well. I focused on hydration, snacked on a couple energy bars, and let the sweat do its thing.
After about 22 miles, I rolled into Sisters with a huge smile on my face. The town was buzzing with people—definitely more activity than I’ve seen in recent days—but I loved the energy. I went straight to the farmer’s market, eyes peeled for something baked. I found a pistachio honey snail pastry (yes, as sweet and amazing as it sounds) and a bite of Gruyère patty—of course I couldn’t say no to Gruyère.
I found a bench, sat down, and started chatting with a lovely woman named Nancy. Later, I enjoyed some live music, met a few more people, and started looking for a place with WiFi to do some research.
With a little work done, I decided to run another 6 miles to Indian Ford Campground just off Hwy 20 to close the day. My new crew member, Don, will arrive this evening and accompany me all the way to the coast—how exciting is that?
Right now, I’m sitting in a warm, lively bakery, maybe grabbing one last sweet treat before I head out. Day 170 has been hot, productive, and full of good vibes. Hopefully it ends with a quiet night under the stars.
Thanks for following along.
Be well, stay inspired, and keep dreaming big.
