A Magical Morning, a Seamless Crew Transition & a Soak at Crystal Crane Hot Springs

Daily miles 35 miles | Total: 5,377.27 miles

I got up really early today—maybe too early? With no phone signal and our devices still confused by the time zone shift, it was impossible to tell what time it truly was. My watch said 6:19am, but I was pretty sure it was only 5:19. It was already light out, though, and cold. I layered up, stepped out of the RV for what I thought would be the last time sleeping in it, and hit the road.

The first few miles were slightly uphill, then mostly downhill, winding through a quiet, magical landscape. On both sides, vast open land stretched to the horizon, a palette of soft morning colors as the sun rose behind me. I felt peace in the stillness, and something about running alone through that space made my thoughts stretch wide open.

At mile 3, Michael—my new crew member—drove past, pulled over, and joined me for a few strides. It was the perfect kind of handover: smooth, warm, supportive. The kind of moment that makes you realize how lucky you are to be surrounded by good people.

I had a good rhythm all day, soaking in the beauty, breathing in the fresh high desert air. Around mile 20, I began wondering where my crew had gone—it had been a while since I’d seen them. I flagged down a woman in a passing car and asked her to check in on them if they were still by the meteorological station where we camped. Just a few minutes later, my crew rolled up smiling and full of energy. Relief! They refilled my hydration bladders, handed me snacks, and gave me that extra lift I needed to finish strong.

By mile 33, I saw both crews—past and present—gathered at a roadside turnout, sorting out logistics and planning to meet at our destination. In a funny and heartwarming twist, my old crew decided to stay one more night. The campground at Crystal Crane Hot Springs was just too nice to leave behind immediately. So tonight, we’re all together again—sharing one final meal, one last game, and lots of laughs before the real goodbye comes tomorrow.

Michael has already proven himself to be amazing—thoughtful, flexible, and eager to help however he can. I’m grateful for the continuity of support and kindness that’s carried me this far.

And now, it’s time for something truly special: a soak in the hot springs. My body is tired, but my heart is full.

Thanks for following along on this incredible journey. See you tomorrow, Andrea
